The False, The Norm, The In-Betweeners, and The Lost.
My family is split into 4 categories - the false, the norm, the in-betweeners, and the lost.
The False : not exactly bad family members but detached, career driven complete with brat child who wants for nothing because she was born with everything. The false are renown for their sparkling perrier smelling opinion based of experience they have only read about in the latest OK! magazine.
The Norm : Honest working class type, “work hard and you can play hard”, “always look out for your own”, “blood is thicker than water” approach.
The Norm live and die by family values, respect each other and are dependable in a crisis no matter what time of day or night as long as there is a fresh pot of tea .. the world is fine.
The In- Betweeners : someone who has always lived by the same values as the norms, but picked up a stray and married him so deals as best she can with his baggage as well as attending to family duties such as looking after the elders. Not on as much of a straight and narrow path as the norms but makes the best of a far from ideal situation.
The Lost : The lost are those who started out with the right idea, but along the way went a bit wrong, drugs, alcohol, abusive relationships, a lack of care for their children / pets / surroundings eventually developing into a loathing for all mankind especially those who have made a way in life. they protest that the world is cruel to them alone whilst creating a embellished facade of being part of the Norm’s.
Unfortunately my mother falls into the latter category and most of the drama evolves from here.
The latest in a long list of drama has begun to unfold…
Well.. I say just it has in fact been a month, but under wraps to everyone outside of The Lost unit so that they may continue to maintain the facade referenced above.
Her reasons are perfectly plausible, everyone becomes unhappy with their employment once in a while however whilst revealing her reasons she over spills and lets slip that she is not alone in her recent action. This is when alarm bells start ringing.
See we have been here before, every so often one of them has the bright idea to leave their employment and sit in their own filth for a couple of months with a bottle or 10 for company. The result is usually mounting debts, a lack of cleanliness, countless borrowing of funds from The Norms until one way or another a new job is found cleaning offices, or serving customers in a shop until the next time.
For two accredited professionals in their respective industries with a dependant children still living at home I cannot for the life of me work out why people put themselves in these situations!
Only time will tell of this, the newest episode in my life.
